This sambhar is made in South Indian style blended with Radish cooked along with Pigeon Pea ( Thuvar Dhal ) along with additional ingredients to enhance the taste and texture to the sambhar. Served with White Rice , dosas and Idlis.

Ingredients
  • Pigeon Pea ( Thuvar Dhal ) - 1 /4 cup
  • Daikon / Radish diced - 1 /2 cup
  • Small red onions/ big onion - 1 /4 cup
  • Astafoetida - 1/4 tsp
  • Turmeric powder- 1/4 tsp
  • Mustard seeds- 1 tsp
  • Dry Red Chilli- 3
  • Tomato chopped-1
  • Curry leaves- few
  • Sambhar powder- 2 thsp
  • Tamarind juice - 2 thsp
  • Water - 1/4 cup
  • Salt
  • Coriander leaves
Directions
  • Step 1 First step clean the Thuvar Dhal in water then add 1/4 water along with turmeric powder pressure cook the Dhal with 4 whistles allow to cool completely.Keep aside
  • Step 2 Take a pan add oil – 2 tsp allow it to become hot then add mustard seeds allow to splutter.
  • Step 3 Next add Astafoetida along with dry red chilies fry for few minutes add small red onions and curry leaves fry for 3 minutes.
  • Step 4 Cook till onions become translucent then add diced radish fry for few minutes then add chopped tomatoes along with salt .
  • Step 5 Fry for 3 minutes then add sambhar powder 2thsp mix well fry for 2 minutes in medium flame.
  • Step 6 At this point add water 1/4 cup mix well close the lid cook for 3 minutes.
  • Step 7 Then remove the lid cook for few minutes then add tamarind juice – 2 thsp cook for few minutes then add the boiled Dhal to the mixture mix well add salt if required cook for 5 minutes then add coriander leaves.
  • Step 8 Cook the sambhar until it gets to semi thick consistency.
  • Step 9 Radish sambhar is ready for serving with hot White Rice.
  • Step 10 Enjoy cooking this authentic style Sambhar.
