This recipe is famous street food delight in South Indian cuisine blended with Channa Dhal along with additional ingredients deep fired in oil served with coconut Chutney. I have shared two methods of Masala Vadai Recipe.

Ingredients
  • Channa Dhal - 2 cups
  • Dry Red Chilli - 5
  • Onions sliced -1
  • Green chilies chopped- 3
  • Ginger garlic crushed- 2 thsp
  • Cumin seeds- 1 tsp
  • Fennel seeds- 1 tsp
  • Curry leaves chopped- few
  • Mint leaves chopped- few
  • Turmeric powder- 1/2 tsp
  • Salt - 1.5 tsp depends
  • Oil - deep fry
Directions
  • Step 1 First step take a wide bowl to add 2 cups of Channa Dhal along with dry chilies soak in water for 4 hours.
  • Step 2 Next step after 4 hours drain out the water completely then keep 2 thsp of Channa Dhal separately for later use .
  • Step 3 Take a blender add the Channa Dhal and dry Red Chilli along with 3 thsp of water grind coarsely to thick consistency.
  • Step 4 Meanwhile crush cumin seeds, fennel seeds along with ginger garlic keep aside.
  • Step 5 Take a wide pan add a generous amount of oil to allow it to become hot in medium flame.
  • Step 6 Take a glass bowl add the batter along with onions. Green chilies, ginger garlic crushed, curry leaves, mint leaves little, turmeric powder, salt mix the mixture then take lemon sized balls to flatten it drop in hot oil one by one.
  • Step 7 Fry the masala Vadai by flipping slowly with a spatula takes approximately 8 minutes to get to a crispy golden color in medium flame.

  • Step 11 Take the same batter to add few mint leaves along with soaked Channa Dal 2 thsp and mix well add salt if required.
  • Step 12 Next, make small lemon sized balls drop in oil as shown in video Recipe cook for approximately 10 minutes to crispy golden color then transfer on paper towel.
  • Step 13 Tasty Masala Vadai Is ready for serving.
