This recipe is popular in South Indian cuisine blended with yogurt lightly sour cooked along with vegetable winter melon or Okra along with additional ingredients to enhance the taste and texture to the recipe. Served with White Rice and Papad.

Ingredients
  • Thick Yogurt- 1 cup
  • Channa Dhal - 1 thsp
  • Toor Dhal - 1 thsp
  • Raw Rice - 1 tsp
  • Green Chili - 1
  • Cumin seeds- 1 tsp
  • Turmeric powder- 1 /4 tsp
  • Coconut scrapped - 1/4 cup
  • Winter melon chopped- 1/2 cup
  • Dry red chilis - 5 to 6
  • Mustard seeds- 1 tsp
  • Fenugreek seeds- 1 /4 tsp
  • Astafoetida- 1/4 tsp
  • Curry leaves- few
  • Salt - 1.5 tsp
  • Water - 1/2 cup
  • Coconut oil/ Canola- 2 thsp
Directions
  • Step 1 First step take a bowl add Channa Dhal,Toor Dhal and Raw Rice soak in water for 20 minutes.
  • Step 2 After 20 minutes of soaking time drain out water take a blender add the dhals along with coconut, green chili, cumin seeds, turmeric powder add little water grind to smooth consistency pour in yogurt bowl.
  • Step 3 Take a spatula blend the mixture to smooth consistency without lumps keep aside.
  • Step 4 Take a wide pan add coconut oil allow it to become hot then add mustard seeds allow to splutter, fenugreek seeds ,dry red chili , curry leaves fry in medium flame for few minutes.
  • Step 5 Next add winter melon fry for few minutes then add Astafoetida, turmeric powder, salt sauté the mixture for 5 minutes until the vegetable is cooked to 75 % and raw smell leaves .
  • Step 6 At this point add the buttermilk mixture mix with spatula add salt little cook in medium low flame until a boil comes immediately switch off the flame add few curry leaves.
  • Step 7 Mor kulambu is ready for serving with White Rice.
